Off we go… kind of

2ce2d249-9ad3-495a-bc26-f778ebf8cedfBy now you may have thought that we would be writing about pastries, high tea and double decker busses, but unfortunately our options are more like Philly Cheesesteaks, airport gates and bad coffee.

Last night around 10 we were about to board our connecting flight to London when our tickets wouldn’t scan! From the 10 or so ticketing agents we spoke to, we seem to have some combination of cancelled, non-existent, and someone else’s tickets (that we had in our hands). As seems to always be the case at airports – each person sent us to someone else in a big loop, until we were back to where we came from.

(The same face Ryan made when they told us our tickets were cancelled)

Unfortunately it was the last flight of the night and there weren’t any flights to Heathrow until the following evening (tonight). After trying to get an accomodation voucher for an hour, British Airways finally told us no, and American Airlines seemed to disappear from every kiosk in a 6-terminal airport….hmm.

Like any young travelers would do, we settled on the luxuorious Wyndham Airport hotel. I’d like to say it was our first choice, but it was just one in a long list of hotels we called, each telling us that they were full for the night. At that point we were just happy to have a roof over our heads.

As we are writing this, we finally have tickets for a flight that leaves tonight (!!) and are spending time exploring everything that the Philadelphia airport has to offer. From a wide-array of fancy tablets all over terminal B, to the barren wasteland of terminal C, we’d like to think ourselves experts of the Philadelphia International Airport. Despite our recent expertise in everything Philly, we can’t say this experience has us wanting to come back anytime soon. Luckily for Ryan this restaurant is playing the World Cup games, and we have avocado toast, so things are looking up!

All things considered, we’re doing alright! Stay tuned for some (hopefully) more exciting posts from Europe very soon.
